2025 Open Studios at MinorOak

Artists who live in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire: have you been thinking about doing Open Studios Notts, but aren’t confident about opening your studio to the public? Be part of a shared pop-up studio in Sneinton Market!

Please respond ASAP if you’re interested – our paperwork is due Monday 13 January. Scroll down for the form.

What We’re Thinking About Doing

If there’s enough interest, MinorOak Coworking will host artists for Notts Open Studios in May. Each artist will get a 1/4 of the front room to work with. Below is a possible layout using our 4′-0″ x 2′-6″ tables – but we’d plan it together. Each artist would get approximately 3.5m x 2.5m of space. You can bring you own furniture or use ours. If you book a weekend, you can leave your set-up overnight.

You should plan to set up a mini-studio to demonstrate your process to visitors, and most people will also want to set aside some space for finshed work to sell.

Sections one and two below have access to a Stas hanging system on the wall behind them. Sections 3 and 4 have large windows behind them. We can set up hanging systems on that side, too, but they wouldn’t be as tall or as sophisticated.

There are skylights above as well as glass walls in the front and on one side; the space is flooded with natural light. It really is a beautiful place to make and display art.

Costs and Open Studio Rules

MinorOak will cover the Open Studios fees, which are £50 per artist if you pay individually. We will cover your/our guidebook entries. From the Open Studios website “This includes entry in a widely circulated brochure of all the events with an anticipated print run of 14,000. Each artist receives 150 copies to distribute among their own network.”

MinorOak has public liability insurance which covers our occasional pop-up markets. If you have your own insurance, it’s a plus, but if you don’t, you’ll be covered under ours.

You will be in Sneinton Market, which is well known for having artists’ studios, and some of them will be participating in Open Studios, too.

All types of physical/tangible art are welcome: painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etc. We will also accept crafters and jewellery makers on a case-by-case basis. Designs must be original and have a handmade sculptural or decorative element. Examples would include original jewellery by a silversmith, fine original woodwork, and original sewn or knitted/crocheted designs, including fashion.

You can participate on 1-4 days, so all the Saturdays in May, all the Sundays in May, and two weekends are all possibilities.

The hours are 11am to 5pm, and artists are required to be present at the space. We’d have a 2-hour set-up period and 1-hour take-down period as well, so the space would be open to artists from 9am to 6pm.

Please note that you can’t participate in two places. If you’re participating from your regular studio part of the time, Notts Open Studios won’t accept a second location for you.

It’s a good idea to read Open Studios’ FAQ.

Deadlines

We need this form ASAP – definitely by Friday 10 January. We’ll need a few good photographs of your work by 17 January. I’ll e-mail and ask for example photos if we haven’t seen your work before.
